Last night I had the opportunity to speak to a class of undergraduate students who selected a concentration in leadership to accompany their major.
When I asked them why they selected a concentration in leadership, they told me things like they think it will be beneficial or it was easily attainable. Nobody told me they did it because they want to change the world. And I get it, they're 19, 20 and 21 years old. I was clueless at that age.
That set the stage for good conversation around the following topics.
Leadership changes the world
Self-awareness and self-management are keys to leadership
They identified their dominant pattern of behavior and SOCIAL STYLE
We discussed each Style's security and confidence NEED and STRESS TRIGGERS
We talked about a few dynamics of the human experience that if they are not aware of and if they don't manage, will hurt them. Things like Negativity Bias and Relative Deprivation Theory
We wrapped up discussing five different stress-management strategies and keys to being resilient and adaptable
It takes a village!
