Well, hopefully it is! This bulletin board is the first thing you see when you walk into the elementary school my son attends. At the top it reads:
Change Your Words - Change Your Mindset
When I picked him up from school I asked a member of faculty if they actually talk about the bulletin board or if it's just there to look good. (I'm sure they love me.) She told me this was the focus of their current staff development and it is the topic of discussion with students during their morning homeroom class. When I asked my 1st grader about it, he was able to tell me what the board was about and shared specifics of what he remembered.
I'll be honest, this bulletin board had my mind going in multiple directions with this post. I could have tied this in to Habit # 1 in The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People and Habit # 1: BE PROACTIVE. But I was also tempted to go down the path of how many organizations display things like this bulletin board, that never get talked about. Things like their values, vision, and standards. They look great and are articulated nicely, but no one in the organization really has a clue why they exist and how they fit in.

It does seem pretty elementary, doesn't it? The bottom-line is, the things we think and say matter. They impact things like our security, esteem, worth, and confidence. They also have a direct impact on the types of relationships we build with others.
You may be the smartest and most talented person in the room, but being intentional with the words you say, how you say them, and the impact you have on others will be the key to your success!
Your Words Matter!
